Yesterday, Trump told a crowd of his fans, “I could say the stupidest things, and you’d clap.” Then, he mused about renaming the Pacific or Atlantic Ocean “Trump Ocean.”

I used to be one of the people who may have clapped. That’s humiliating and wrong, and that’s why I do the work I do today.
I know how Trump’s propaganda works from the inside, and I believe — and evidence shows — that this inside knowledge and accountability are the best way to help other people leave MAGA.
Donald Trump is crossing lines and betraying the people of our country in ways people increasingly won’t tolerate.
The proof is in our results: With your support, Leaving MAGA is changing hearts and minds.
This weekend, I gave a talk at a local union hall in Billings, Montana, attended by dozens of former MAGA members and supporters eager to connect and hear my story firsthand. We also got a chance to see our Leaving MAGA billboard in Billings in person!

It was a great event. But a message I received afterward made it even more special.
A woman reached out to me to apologize personally. She’d sent me an email back in January of this year, saying how angry she was that people like me hadn’t seen through Trump’s con much earlier
Today, she’s singing a different tune.
“What your organization is doing in giving people a safe way to exit is awe inspiring. It will take all of us to stop this madness and I agree with you and believe a blue tidal wave is coming in Nov. But we still have a lot of work to do.”
I was so moved to receive this message. It’s why I do the work I do. This meant the world to me.
At Leaving MAGA, there’s no need to feel shame about the mistakes we made in the past. That’s not what this organization is about. Everyone here has made mistakes. That’s why everyone here feels free and comfortable as we work together to find a pathway forward.
Just 23 days left to Election Day
I firmly believe that Leaving MAGA’s emphasis on creating non-judgmental spaces and community does more to bring over Trump supporters than the typical approach we see from hyper-partisan groups: anger, shaming, and isolating.
It’s more critical than ever that we expand Leaving MAGA’s presence and physical spaces, because Trump’s presidency goes further off the rails each day.
When he speaks in public, his hubris and loss of touch with reality are plain to see.
Donald Trump is not a competent leader, or even a well man. People who supported him in 2016, 2020, and even 2024 are seeing that now. They need a place to go — somewhere with former Trump supporters like them.
Leaving MAGA is that non-judgmental setting. We ease the transition for people who are done with MAGA, but need the support of community around them as they depart.
Thanks for being with us on this odyssey,
Rich
