Your tax dollars are paying off the J6 insurrectionists

Before Trump returned to office, many J6’ers were in jail.

Now they’re in line to get a payout on your dime.

Trump’s DOJ has opened a $1.776 billion taxpayer-funded slush fund to reward his allies who stormed the Capitol on his behalf back in 2021 — with no judge and no Congress standing in the way.

A screenshot from a CBS News article with the headline,

It’s just Trump’s DOJ, run by his former personal lawyer, deciding who gets paid — and who doesn’t.

I know there are MAGA supporters who will be startled by this — to see this fund coming straight out of their paychecks.

How do I know?

Because January 6 was one of the factors that caused me to leave MAGA.

Like many people, I didn’t walk away the same day I had my first doubts about Trump and MAGA. Instead, I began trying to explain things away in my head.

But on the inside, I was confused and upset.

“It was just a protest,” I told myself. “This whole thing got overblown,” I told my MAGA friends.

But a crack had opened up in my pro-Trump armor.

And over time, that crack got wider and wider.

I began to see that J6 was not just a protest. It was an attempt to halt the peaceful transfer of power from one president to the next. It was an affront to our democracy.

When I finally accepted the truth, I could no longer rationalize a president who tried to overturn a free and fair election.

It was one of many betrayals. I deeply regret voting for Donald Trump and this is the work I do to try to help heal our country.

For others in MAGA, perhaps they, too, have rationalized J6 for years. Perhaps they, too, have looked the other way as Trump sprang criminals from jail.

But now?

Setting up a fund of taxpayer money?

Our hard-earned money?

Handing out that money to J6ers for “being loyal”?

For some in MAGA, their rationalizations are going to collapse under the weight of these absurdities.

HELP US REACH PEOPLE WITH SERIOUS DOUBTS

This is exactly when we need to be there.

At the moment when folks are confused, angry, and have lost faith.

Research from the American Psychological Association found that one of the main reasons people leave extremist groups is developing doubts about internal leadership. And one of the best ways to guide people out of such groups is via what are called “formers.”

What is a “former?” It’s exactly what it sounds like. Former group members who’ve already found their way out.

That’s what Leaving MAGA is. And it’s why your support matters right now.

I’m here to take others on the same journey I went on, including the liberating clarity of finally leaving MAGA. This is how we start to turn our country around, and I can only do it with your support.

Every day, Trump is giving more people a reason to doubt. And when that doubt turns into a door, we’ll be there to open it — because we’ve already walked through it ourselves.

It’s always a stellar day to leave MAGA.

Thanks for being with us on this odyssey,

Rich
