Recent polling has found that a vast majority of Americans oppose AI data centers in their communities.
This opposition holds across the political spectrum.
People do not want noisy, polluting, energy-intensive, unsightly data center buildings in their neighborhoods. They certainly don’t want these data centers constructed without their permission.
Yet Donald Trump — ever the friend to big business — is on the side of big tech and data center construction, despite a recent Gallup survey finding that a full 7 out of 10 Americans oppose data centers, and only 7% strongly favor them.
“The only reason that communities throughout the USA should not want Data Centers is if they want to end up being backwards and poor,” ranted Trump on Truth Social today. “If they want to be successful and rich, with far lower taxes and jobs all over the place, let Data Reign.”

This is hardly the first time Trump has ignored his base and the American public as a whole.
But it is a sign of his increasing alienation from his voters.
He’s directly calling his own supporters “backwards and poor”— and indirectly calling them stupid — for failing to support data centers. After leaving MAGA, I realized how often my intelligence had been insulted.
This can’t possibly go over well and is likely one betrayal too many for a lot of folks.
People will put up with a lot, but being insulted for wanting to protect your land and community will be a red line for many.
HELP US REACH THE VOTERS TRUMP CALLS
“BACKWARDS AND POOR”
There’s no dressing up what Trump is doing here: trying to persuade the masses to hand over their land to Big Tech. Voters, and particularly rural voters, aren’t likely to take kindly to it.
Today is August 31. That means we have just a few hours left to hit our August fundraising goal. We need your help to finish out strong and ensure we have the war chest we need going into September.
Thanks for being with us on this odyssey,
