Last night, several Mamdani-endorsed progressive Democrats won their Congressional primaries in New York City.
But to hear Fox News tell it, you’d think Stalin himself had marched the Red Army into Times Square and announced the construction of 10,000 gulags — ready and waiting for every registered Republican.
Fear, rage, and panic are the beating heart of the MAGA machine.And since last night, they’ve taken the victory of a handful of Democratic Socialists and ratcheted that fear up to 11.
I remember very well my time in the fear bubble.
Everyone was out to get us, and no one — no one but fellow MAGA members, that is — could be trusted.
Over the last decade, MAGA figureheads have moved aggressively to dehumanize Democrats and liberals, not to mention immigrants, LGBTQ+ people, and just about anyone who doesn’t fit into a few narrow boxes.
If you’re not with us, you’re against us.
And if you’re against us, you’re to be feared.
I remember how it felt to be in that echo chamber. You become addicted to the hate, fear, and rage, egged on by Fox News, Breitbart, and the rest of the far-right media.
If you wonder why people are still part of MAGA, this is a big piece of the puzzle. They’re scared of their own shadow, and that fear was engineered into them.
That’s why we here at Leaving MAGA are the perfect ambassadors to approach them. We come to them from a place of safety: sharing that we, too, were a part of MAGA. This brings their guard down. We’re not out to get them. We’re not out to destroy America, their homes, or their families. There is no “They.”
We get it.
Our billboards say …
“Having doubts? You are not alone.”
Because we understand the propaganda that’s been used on people. We’ve been there. I once propagandized myself.
When a Trump supporter reads that billboard, they’re not reading a message from “the enemy”— They’re reading a message from a friend.
That’s what we here at Leaving MAGA are ready to be.
But it’s critical that we get our message out there. We have billboards going up across the country, and wherever they pop up, conversation follows.
We get viral tweets. Media mentions. Interviews.
Our goal is to hit all 50 states before the midterm elections.
