A few days ago, a three-time Trump voter from New Mexico called into C-SPAN.
But he wasn’t calling to laud the President, extol the virtues of MAGA, or brag about Trump’s second term.
Instead, he angrily tore into Trump — then apologized for ever supporting him.

For this caller, his last straw was Trump’s disgusting decision to post a racist image of the Obamas depicted as apes. The caller, with undisguised anger, described it as awful, going on to say, “What an embarrassment to our country.”
But once he got started, the caller’s anger over the racist picture wasn’t all he had on his mind:
“All this man does is tell lies. He is not worthy of the Presidency. He takes bribes — blatantly. And now he’s being a racist — blatantly. They were supposed to deport the dangerous criminals. They were not supposed to go after small children, storm schools, bring terror upon little kids and women in school — it’s not just the immigrants who are scared; all the children in school are scared. This is not a decent man.”
As he went on, listing everything that had led to this breaking point, you could hear the emotion in his voice. Not just anger — betrayal. Regret. Deep sadness. I can relate to hearing one lie too many; feeling betrayed one too many times.
This C-SPAN caller is far from alone.
Here at Leaving MAGA, we encounter people like him every single day.
And every day, more and more Trump voters reach their breaking point. It may be something big, like the ongoing ICE raids detaining and killing innocent people in our communities.
Or it may be a straw-that-breaks-the-camel’s-back moment — like Trump posting yet another racist meme.
But when a moment like that hits, we here at Leaving MAGA need to be ready to offer a better way forward.
Unfortunately, those in MAGA are often embedded deep into pro-MAGA communities. But we know how to reach them.
We have less than a year to the midterms to ensure that MAGA is as weak as possible on Election Day — and what we’re doing is a critical piece of that.
Every person who walks away from MAGA today is a person who won’t defend election interference from Trump in November.
We need more Americans to stand on the side of justice, no matter what they’ve believed up until this point.
I know that every MAGA member has a red line. And I believe that for many of them, that line is either here or very near.
Thanks for being with us on this odyssey,
Rich
